WHO IS DÙN CONSULTING?

Welcome to Dùn Sain LLC (A.K.A. Dùn Consulting). Since internet searches like “organizational security,” “soft-target security,” or anything-else-security are fairly specific, I’m going to presume you’re not here by accident. I’m Chris Pender, Founder and Lead Advisor of Dùn Consulting. I started this company to keep people safe in what I consider an underserved market – soft-target organizational security. I’ve worked in many aspects of security, from event security to corrections to military operations. In my 20-year career, I’ve realized that security isn’t just tech – although it does come in handy.

Understanding Security

Security is a mindset. It is a state of being. It is an overlapping and layered system designed, executed, and managed by people. For me, it breaks down roughly like this:

Foundation

The cornerstone of any effective security operation is the “why.” Why do you need security? Who or what are you protecting? Who or what are you protecting against? This forms the backbone or foundation and allows you to build something that functions according to your organization’s specific needs.

Structure

Now that we have a foundation, we can build the walls. Personnel, policies, procedures, and various other factors go into a functional security program. However, not all factors are appropriate for every organization. A warm and welcoming greeter at the door works well for a church as a basic initial screener but has no place in a school setting, for example. Building the infrastructure of a security program from the ground up will determine its functionality in accordance with your organization’s specific mission.

Effect

With the foundation and structure in place, implementation becomes a natural byproduct. Instead of grinding against organizational culture and mission, security operations now support them by design. That’s not to say security protocols will be invisible. The very nature of security is to be inconvenient to threats, after all. However, they will seem much less arbitrary and much less offensive to those they’re designed to protect. This will mitigate much of the friction experienced in many security programs.

Our Mission

Simply put, Dùn Consulting’s mission is to make your mission safer to perform. Whether that translates to the safety of your congregation, the kids you teach, the patients you treat, or the customers you serve – your staff, your facilities, whatever – it all boils down to people. This can be viewed as an artificial binary – good guys and bad guys – but that quickly becomes reductive and less useful. What I do is help you harden against potentialities and manage threats that get through your layers of interventions. Let’s face it, no security intervention or protocol is 100% effective. Knowing what to do when they fail is what separates real security from theater.

The Importance of Open Dialogue

Security, as a topic, naturally covers some scary ground. That ground must be talked about openly and honestly. However, while fearmongering and tactical theater might market well to some, they undercut the true point of consulting, which is measured, sound reasoning and application. Drama sells. I get it. But let’s agree to keep it in our Netflix streams and out of our security programs, shall we?

Trust in Your Consultant

Of course, none of this means a thing if you can’t trust your consultant. In the world of security consulting, it can be difficult to tell quality from opportunism. The security market is a huge industry with many facets and niches. This means there are many ways for people to take advantage of organizations seeking the biggest proverbial bang for their buck. Dùn Consulting is NOT one of these.

Why Choose Dùn Consulting?

So, that’s who I am – what Dùn Consulting is. I’m your remote-first, experienced specialist dedicated to making your mission safer. If that resonates, check me out at www.dunconsulting.com. I’m also on Facebook, X, and LinkedIn – soon to be on YouTube. Hope to meet you soon.

Conclusion

In conclusion, security is not just about technology. It is about understanding your needs and building a solid foundation. It requires a thoughtful approach that considers the unique aspects of your organization. By focusing on people and processes, we can create a safer environment for everyone involved.

Let’s work together to ensure that your mission is protected. The safety of your community depends on it.
